On Friday 23rd March 2018, 3rd of Primary had a very beneficial Exit Point of their Project “What’s on the menu?” with the visit of Lara and Cristina Sánchez from the Central Abattoir of Asturias.
They made a presentation about food, explaining to us especially the cutting up and manipulation of pork and beef meat. We also talked about the food pyramid and the reading of tags of the different products to know about their “traces”. We remembered many things we had studied in the project and learned a lot more.
But the most amusing was seeing, touching and comparing some internal organs, experiencing different textures, such as the one of a cow and a pig’s heart, the eyes, the liver, the lungs or the kidneys. There were very few children who didn’t want to touch them. We also made hamburgers, although due to the strict safety requirements in the manipulation of food, as Lara explained, we had to destroy our creations. But we had a great time!
