Year 3A did an experiment, over one week, to see if plants need water and light to grow and survive.
We went to the garden and found three wild flowers. We placed them in the pots and took them to our classroom.
We put plants 1 and 2 on the windowsill,
We hid plant 3 away from sunlight inside a box.
We watered plants 1 and 3 every day, but we did not water plant 2.
Our Prediction or Hypothesis
We draw our predictions on paper and waited to see the results.
The children were very curious and used their imagination on their drawings, which were very creative.
As the experiment progressed we observed the three plants day by day and recorded what was happening until the last day.
The plant without water (plant 2) died the very second day.
The plant without sunlight (plant 3) was almost dead at the end of the week, but had resisted well enough for 5 days .
The plant with water and sunlight (plant 1) was alive and was proclaimed the WINNER – (Even though it was not as beautiful as the first day)
We all learnt that plants need water and sunlight to survive, since Carbon Dioxide on its own is not enough.
