All year 5 students are working on the IPC project Space Explorers. The activity they did today involved building a pin-hole viewer that would allow them to measure the Sun and find out how big it is. They went outside with their viewers, held them up until the sunlight went through, drew the shape of the reflection of the Sun on paper and measured the distance between the viewer and the image of the Sun’s reflection. They also measured the diameter of the image of the Sun.
Afterwards and with all the information ready, they went back to the classroom and did their calculations. We are leaving an easy video tutorial here so you can try this at home.
