3rd December 15
Friday 27th was a big day for Palacio de Granda. We celebrated 40 years since the school was founded in 1975, when it was a nursery for 39 children.
After starting the day with a House competition at 14:00 we had Open Doors, having a lot of alumni and their families who were delighted to see how much the school has recently improved. In the boarding hall there was a picture and video exhibition remembering these 40 years while in the sports centre a timeline highlighted the most important events since 1975.
At 15:00 the whole school and the guests gathered in the sports centre for the Anniversary ceremony. On such important occasion Anita Gleave, Director of Operations at ISP, Piers Frazier, Head of Marketing, Admissions and Communication, Nick Rugg, Principal in the Laude British School of Villareal and Graeme Delaney, Chief Inspector, came especially to celebrate with us.
After some piano music played by Zaira, Sixth Form, our Principal, Anne Stevens, welcomed everyone and introduced 2º ESO students, who played two songs with the recorder. After that, Gloria Sedano, Principal at Palacio de Granda 2000/2014, took a trip down the memory lane remembering the foundation of the school and all the changes and improvements in these four decades.
First of ESO students also entertained the audience with the recorder and then three representatives of Primary students, Alba, Adrián and Sebastian, said some words about their vision of the school.
The band Arte de Sentir, formed by 3º de ESO students, sang a version of Nacha Pop’s “Chica de Ayer” and Marina and Inés, 1º de ESO, played the oboe.
For the first time we had Hugo, Sixth Form, on stage, he sang “So long, goodbye” with his guitar and later he played after the ceremony.
Gonzalo, Laura and Fernando represented ESO and Sixth Form students saying some words about their experience at Palacio de Granda, and Paula Núñez, alumnae and now teacher at the school, remembered her student years with emotion.
Carla, Claudia and Paloma, 4º Primary and 2º ESO, did a choreography together and we also had Borja Villa, alumnus of Palacio de Granda, who danced for us and greeted the presents remembering his love for the school and with a piece of advice for our current students “to take advantage of their time at Palacio de Granda.”
Anne Stevens closed the ceremony highlighting all the changes in the world since 1975, particularly all which have a great influence in education, and with a positive and hopeful look to the future. The finale was for our youngest, Infants, who sang a birthday song for the school.
To finish the Principal, accompanied by Anita Gleave and Nick Rugg representing ISP, Gloria Sedano, Lara García, representing teachers, and Carmen, Ramón, Gabriel, Chema, Belén, Carlota, Marcos and Teresa, chosen at random among all the students in the school, blew the 40 candles of the cake with a Happy Birthday, sung by all the present. Then we had cake and champagne to toast in honor of Palacio de Granda.
A day of emotions and reencounters, it was wonderful to celebrate it all together and meet so many alumni and their families, thanks to all who came. To those who could not come, please keep in touch, Palacio de Granda is always open for you all.
